Standing with Ukraine No. 2

We stand with Ukraine. 🇺🇦

One of a series of two original oil paintings. A visual homage to the (now familiar) colors of the flag of Ukraine, illustrated as the bold blue of an open sky and the light gold of a field of grain, while a lone tree streaks above the horizon stitching together the two blocks of color.

The tree is a golden trumpet tree, which has been blooming with bright yellow flowers here in Florida throughout March. It’s a species that grows here but is originally native to South America, which somewhat echos how the far corners of the globe have come together in support of Ukraine, and perhaps also how the people of Ukraine may find themselves in far-flung places in the years to come.

The cost to purchase the frame was donated by an anonymous patron, which enables all proceeds from this sale to benefit Ukrainians with disabilities. Funds will go to Fight for Right, a Ukrainian organization coordinating accessible shelter, evacuations, and emergency services for those living with disabilities. (It’s an organization recommended by the Obama Foundation).

I know this is a small gesture, but I was frustrated by feeling so powerless to help. So, I focused on doing what I can do: make art.
